Rating

Quality: Average

At a glance...

Complexity/Character: Pepper and leathery on the nose with cherry and plum notes. On the palate, plum and pepper with some earthy funkiness.

Balance: Good but fairly soft tannins and acid; drink now or soonish..

Length: OK..

Region: Adelaide Plains, South Australia.

Alc/vol: 14.5% alc/vol

Source: Gift.

Tasting Notes:

I had to look twice at the winery name on the bottle label; it almost gives an entirely new meaning to the expression ‘stiff drink’. This was better than I expected. A fairly simple wine, but soundly made and one that offers something a little bit funkier and different from South Australian fruit bombs. Worth a shot for those who like Hunter shiraz.
