Vinum Suburbia

I was trawling though the internet the other day looking for information on constructing a vineyard (trellising systems etc…) when I stumbled upon a web page set up by a guy in California that had documented all of the stages of the construction of his family home in a suburban part of the Napa Valley.

There’s nothing to strange or unique about this of course - many people document significant parts of their life on the internet now. What caught my attention, however, was the relatively substantial vineyard that this enterprising fellow had somehow convinced his wife to allow him to construct in their backyard.

Approximately three years after planting his suburban grape farm, Mr C was bottling around 500 units of his own Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. Now I have no idea about the quality of this wine, but it doesn’t really matter does it.

Commendations and hats off to you Mr C - that’s a stroke of pure genius!

Now, if you could somehow convince your wife to allow you to dig up your backyard and turn it into a lush vineyard, what wine would you choose?

I don't like my chances of growing Pinot Noir in metropolitan Sydney. So I'd say Gruner Veltliner because 1 DO know that my garden is a haven for weeds.

What a great idea! If only I can get my wife to agree...

Tell her they're Roses and then by the time she finds out it will all be too late.

I'm in the Napa too. What a great idea! I think I'll grow some Zinfandel. How much Zin can I get from small plot?
