The Perfect Wine
09 October 2007
Just like Surfers who are forever seeking "the prefect wave - dude", wine tragics like us are forever searching for that perfect wine. Of course it's an ethereal thing in which the greater pleasure is in the journey and not the destination, but some of the stops along the way can be well worth a visit.
My "current" perfect wine is a bottle of 1990 Chateau de Beaucastel, Châteauneuf-du-Pape that I shared with my good mate Mad Garry Three Beers (not his real name...) on a cold winter's night in Cambridge in 2002-2003. After being brought up on big fruity Aussie reds this wine was a revelation to me. It was the first time I'd tasted a wine with such flavour, complexity, character, power and finesse all rolled into one. To this day it remains my all time favourite wine experience (fully clothed that is...).
Of course, like the doped-up wine junky that I am, I'm still searching for
something to surpass, or at least replicate, that experience - still seeking
the perfect wave.
So, what is your "current" Perfect Wine, and why?
(PS - stories involving naked women and oil will also be accepted)
