Recommendations for your wine of the year

by Wayne Courtney last modified 2007-12-09 07:09

9 December 2007

It has been an exciting first year for us here at The Guzzle. We''re getting used to tasting wine and publishing our notes, and other general ruminations on all things vinous. As 2007 draws to a close, we are thinking about which wine we will recommend as The Guzzle Wine of the Year, an idea recommended by our kind ISP host Arryn.

Now The Guzzle WOTY is unlikely to send shockwaves through the industry (or have any impact on the industry at all, really), but it allows us an opportunity to reflect on all the wines we've sampled, tasted, swirled, swished, spat and swallowed over the past 12 month. The decision will, inevitably, be a hotly debated one. Matty will immediately reject anything made from Sauv Blanc. Many of Marcus's  wines will be  disqualified due to being heat affected in a trans-Tasman shuffle. Wayne clearly leads the field on expensive yet underperforming and rubbish-value wines.

Before we publish our wine of the year, we're keen to hear from you on what was, for you, the 'Wine of the Year'.  It doesn't have to be the most famous or premium label wine you drank, but rather the wine that gave you the most pleasure (perhaps unexpectedly?)

Let's hear your thoughts.

I vote for Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2007. Best in the world.

Anything expensive and European. I actually don't care whether it tastes any good, but I enjoy posing and acting like a wine snob.

Did I mention that I drive a Porsche Boxster?
